Our History

Bethany School Garchuk Guwahati : Bethany School is a Catholic Minority Institution established and run by Bethany Educational Society @ which is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. This Educational Society runs more than a hundred formal and non-formal educational institutions all over India. On August 1st 1997 Bethany Sisters stepped into Garchuk Guwahati and started to live and render their loving and compassionate service to the last, the least and the lost of the society through the slum apostolate. Later the sisters engaged in other programmes like Health and Hygiene and Self Help groups. Many were instrumental in realizing the dream of starting an English Medium School in answer to the crying need of the people of the locality into reality. On 31st May 1999, Archbishop Thomas Menaparampil blessed the foundation stone for the school building. On 27th December 1999 he blessed the newly built school with 5 classrooms on the ground floor and the Provincial Superior Sr Edleburgh inaugurated it. On 28th January 2000 Bethany Convent School was opened with 16 students in K.G. Sr Pushpa was in charge of this educational endeavour and on 17th June Sr Felcy Telis took over as the First Headmistress of the school. In the year 2003 Sr Therese Lagardo was appointed as the Headmistress. School grew slowly and steadily under the leadership of Sisters, with the collaboration and hard work of the teachers. Sr Claudius took over the administration of the school from Sr Theresa Lagardo in the year 2006 and worked very hard to obtain NOC from the State Government. Leaving no stone unturned, braving all the ordeals she strove hard to get the school affiliated to Board of Secondary Education, Assam in the year 2011. After six years of her stay she handed over the growing school into the hands of Sr Rosia who remained in the helm of school from 2012-2019 and school grew from strength to strength and in order to accommodate the growing number of students she introduced shift system. In the year 2019 Sr Lavina D Souza was appointed as the Principal of the School. The educational institutions with the introduced of CAA and students in particular suffered much owing to global Pandemic for the past two years. Amidst COVID 19 Bethany School ushered in Sr Benedicta Sapna as the New Principal the School on 15th June, 2021. Another feather to Bethany School : In 2022  2023 Bethany School is upgraded to Senior Secondary School. We believe that together with the School Management, Administration, the staff, students and parents working hand in hand will be able to create a suitable atmosphere for the growth and development of each child. As we journey towards normalcy let us be optimistic and extend our support, love and cooperation to achieve our core value Transformative Education for fullness of life for all.
